website design and SEO?

Question by pedro310: website design and SEO?
I am currently planning on making a new web site for a hotel with reservation capabilities. I am debating if I need a company to built the whole site and then SEO it or just built the site myself and then have a SEO company look at it? I dont want to spend an excessive amount on PPC campaigns and need organic listings for the marketing end. I am wondering if I need a new design compared to the existing site www.econolodgeflagstaff.com to have the best results.

SEO is highly over-rated as a means of driving site traffic. In most cases it’s a waste of time, and in the case of SEO consultants, a waste of money.

The only sites that benefit from SEO already appear on page one or two of Google search engine results pages (SERPs) so you can optimize your site to the max, but if your SERPs link appears on page 44, you won’t see much, if any, organic site traffic. When was the last time you drilled through 44 pages of SERPs? No one does.

SEO is designed specifically for spiders (bots) not buyers. Better you spend your time on search engine marketing – creating links popularity, creating a weblet, syndicating content and answering questions on Yahoo.

Connectivity is important. It’s much more likely that a visitor will find your site through a link (anything from an RSS feed to a paid link on a related site) than that visitor will find your site through Google or Yahoo or any other of the 4,000 search engines on line.

In effect, SEO continues to lose importance while SEM gains in importance. Market your site to humans and SEO will ultimately take care of itself.

Just one guy’s opinion. Good luck with the site.

You Do NOT need to pay for SEO. You won’t get the results you think. Use text links, not button image links for your navigation, research your keywords, and get a boatload of backlinks, that’s it.

editor… is wrong about some of the things that he said, in my opinion. SEO is not some impossible task – it just needs to be tailored to the right keywords. If you have a small hotel in Arizona, don’t target your SEO to the same keywords that the Mariot does, you will never come out on top. Rather, you should target towards keywords like “affordable arizona hotel”, this way, you are competing with a much smaller and less powerful group of websites, while at the same time, being more effective on the human angle. People who are searching for an affordable hotel in Arizona will find you, so it is not just for robots. When you are looking for a hotel, do you click banner ads, or do you just google it and click a result?
There is much room for on-page SEO improvement on the site. Backlinks are more important though, and they take more work. My company can help you designing and building the site in an optimized way. Best of luck.

What Is More Important — Web Design Or SEO?

Web Design and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) are not mutually exclusive. The best webmasters are familiar with Search Engine Optimization techniques, as well as Website and Graphical Design. It is difficult to have a successful website if you neglect either SEO or Design. The two are intricately woven, and really must coexist to achieve website success.

In other words hire someone who has experience with both!

Your questions are great. I think what you need is a web host that will assist you through the set up and maintenance of your web site. I personally enjoy having the opportunity to have a big part in the building of my site. There are web hosts that specialize in what you are looking for. I would suggest that you research many options. First compare feature-by-feature then dollar-for-dollar. This will ensure that you get the best fit for your needs and get you the most for your money. You can take a look at the web host that I use as one of your options. http://wahm.sitesell.com/UnstoppableDreams.html
I would be happy to share about my experience using them as well.

    BEST WISHES!

Any design can work for the SEO. Dont worry.

Just dont use the excessive flash and mostly images on the site.

Other things are not important for SEO.

    Pedro,
    A few questions for you:
    1. Are you comfortable with web programming and graphic design?
    2. Are you familiar with how the search engines catalog websites for a search?
    3. Are you willing to chance losing sales because there are imperfections in your web presentation.
    4. On top of running your hotel do you also try to do all the other jobs too,

If you can answer yes to all three questions then YES you should build your own site and SEO it.

We outsourced our web work to TeleSouth Network. They got us up and running with all customizations needed for our ecommerce work.

Dont try to do it yourself. Trust me on that one. Its just too complex to do it right.

    Good luck

To start with – people who say that SEO doesnt work or is a scam, to put this respectfully, dont know what they are talking about. I learnt about SEO over a year ago, and I am surprised at the difference it makes to the sales – it also helps reduce marketing spend in other areas.

What you need to make sure is that you dont get conned by taking on an SEO consultant or company that dont know what they are doing – its those guys that give SEO a bad name.

If you can code and build a site well, then you can easily incorporate SEO elements while doing that. Its always easier to think of SEO before you build a site, that way you save time and money later on, because you dont have to come back and correct original design mistakes.

Read up on SEO architecture – in your case, build in search friendly URLs, customisable title and description tags when you build the site.

Hiring the build out to a professional is a good idea if you have the money – but other wise you can get the basics right yourself. The present site does a lot of the basics really well – however you may need to get the title tags and descriptions cleaned up for your target keywords.

Use a keyword research tool (plenty free on the net) which will give you a focus on what people are looking for.

    Good Luck.
