Is it illegal to redirect a website to another website domain in terms of search engine and SEO point of view?

Question by SirenLD: Is it illegal to redirect a website to another website domain in terms of search engine and SEO point of view?
I have purchased a web site address and want the traffic from that site to be redirected to my main website and i did a 302 redirect. I don’t know what it is 302. But I was told to do that. Is it illegal and will it hurt my main website? Thanks.

It is certainly not illegal to use a 302 redirect. Since I’m not 100% certain what you are trying to achieve, I would suggest to ask yourself these questions:
Do I want to redirect this traffic permanently or just for a defined period of time?
Is the Web site I’m sending traffic to replacing the domain you’re redirecting from or is it just a placeholder for a period of time?

If you want to direct your traffic permanently, you should use a 301 redirect, if this is a temporary situation, you’re fine with a 302.
