Internet News | First Data Protection Act fines issued by commissioner

The commissioner said the fines – the first he has issued – would “send a strong message” to those handling data. Commissioner Christopher Graham was granted the authority to serve financial penalties for data protection breaches in April of this year. he said “It is difficult to imagine information more sensitive than that relating to a child sex abuse case. I am concerned at this breach – not least because the local authority allowed it to happen twice within two weeks.” Hertfordshire County Council faxed details of a child sex abuse case to a member of the public is to be fined £100000 for breaching the Data Protection Act. A spokesman for Hertfordshire County Council said it accepted the commissioner’s findings. “We are sorry that these mistakes happened and have put processes in place to try and prevent any recurrence,” he added. Sheffield-based A4e was fined £60000 for losing an unencrypted laptop with the details of about 24000 people. The A4e data breach issued an unencrypted laptop to an employee to work at home. The computer contained personal information relating to 24000 people who had used community legal advice centres in Hull and Leicester. It was later stolen from the employee’s house and an unsuccessful attempt to access the data was made shortly afterwards. Personal details recorded on the system included names, dates of birth, postcodes, employment information, information about alleged criminal activity and whether an individual had been a victim of

This is a visualization of traffic sources over a one-month period for SML Pro Blog on Google Analytics, highlighting in particular performance on social networks from Twitter (red), Facebook (blue) and Friendfeed (teal), with Google (SEO) traffic added for comparison.

Important to note also is the network connectivity associated with those profiles:
SML Facebook: 630 friends.
SML Friendfeed: 279 subscriptions
SML Twitter: 767 followers

I think that FriendFeed is a clear winner here. It even outperforms Google.

Big Photo: What is the Size of the Image Data Market? (2010-2011)

Big Photo: What is the Size of the Image Data Market? (2010-2011)
internet marketing search engine
Big Data is the science of managing data sets that become so large that they are difficult to manipulate with traditional software. New techniques were developed to organize, analyze, and retrieve excessive quantities of data. Big Photo refers to applying similar methodologies to equally large sets of images.

One “Flickr’s worth” of photos is uploaded to the social network by Facebook users monthly.

The portion of the indexed web estimated to be image files is estimated to be 30 percent.

However, the indexed web is far less than 1 percent of the the known web and doesn’t include the mobile web or social networks like Twitter and Facebook. Each hold massive datasets that aren’t available to search engines like Google.

In 2001 researchers proposed that 17 percent of the web’s text was contained in image or video files and, therefore, was not indexed by search engines. OCR and visual search technologies have improved, greatly impacting this problem.

The creation of textual content is rapidly being dwarfed by images and video. Coupled with the fact that the lines between the mobile web and traditional web are blurring, the opportunity for new tools and products for indexing and manipulating visual data sets becomes apparent.

This report looks at three things: the relative size and growth of the largest photosharing social networks, the mobile messaging market and the year on year growth of mobile and internet.

To normalize the data, we reference only the latest market information from the previous year. So, this research is only as accurate as fourth quarter research from the previous year — in this case 2010.

Prints, large format files and more research available from metalayer.com.

Raw historical search engine data for search phrases/keywords?

Question by Jonathan J: Raw historical search engine data for search phrases/keywords?
I’m getting into SEO and niche marketing, and was wondering if there is a service that provides historical search engine data.
I’m looking for data that lists every phrase/keyword searched during a month (or otherwise specified time frame) and how many times it was searched for in that period. For example, the list might look something like this:

Search Term———-#Times Searched Last Month

Phrase 1—————-50,000
Phrase 2—————-340
Phrase 3—————-2,700
Phrase 4—————-5
Phrase 5—————-60

And so on…

I am aware of data offered by WordZE that provides the top 5,000 search terms from within a week or month (not sure which search engine they’re getting data from), but I was looking more for a complete list of terms searched for, not just the top 5,000.
If someone could point me in the right direction, I’d be much obliged.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, in Firefox go to the page you want to see Meta Data on.
Right click on the background and select View Page Info.
Under the General Tab you should see a white box in the middle that contains all the pages meta data.
