And so it ends …

Apologies for not writing much over the previous weeks. Been kinda busy and not so much watching my weight as I maybe should have been. Its not an excuse :)

In any case, my final weight is (drum roll please) …… 205.

Lets see … starting weight 207 - 205 = 2 lbs weight loss. Ohoh. Its those darn conferences I tell ya.

Hmmmmm … not such a good loss.

That said … I guess I lost my $50 bet with Jennifer Laycock. I’d also like to throw in another $250 to the winning cause.

Last, I’d like to say a big thank you to Donna for taking the time and effort to put this all together, and a big congrats to those who participated and lost weight!

Way to go everyone!

I’ve Been Bad

Ok, I’ll be frank. I’ve kind of fallen off the wagon in the last week or so. I allowed myself to be pulled into my old habits, and am a little embarrased about it.

Accordingly, I’ve gained back just about everything I lost earlier. I’m officially 206 pounds again. Its not looking particularly promising for me either. I’m off to SMX West next week, then SES New York in another 3 weeks … and these trips aren’t great for those counting calories or trying to exercise.

As I’ve said from the beginning though … whatever I do has to be sustainable.

Its interesting, I still haven’t been able to get into an exercise routine. I’m hoping once the warmer weather arrives in a month’s time, and the snow and ice melts, I’ll be able to jog/roller blade a little more.

Ok … back to work. If youu’re at SMX West or SES New York, please do say hi!

Friday Update

So far so good. Not sure how much weight I’ve lost so far, but all the snow we’ve received lately is sure giving me a good workout.

I’m guessing I’ve lost roughly 5 pounds to date, but will let you know for certain Monday am.

Overall, its getting better. I think at least 8 of us here in the SEP offices are watching what we eat, so I’m not being tempted at lunch.

Now … to survive the weekend!

Week 1 Update

Just a quick update. Following Super Bowl Sunday, I weighed myself Monday and was surprised to learn I was down about 3.5 pounds (to 202.5) … though might just have been time of day.

Another interesting discovery as well, was that a Double Double coffee (two creamers, two sugars) from Tim Hortons (Canada’s favourite coffee shop) is the equivalent of 6 points on a weight watchers program. To put that in perspective, I would be allowed only 27/28 points per day in total, so in essence my 3 Tim Horton’s coffees per day would leave me little room for actual food.

Interesting! The journey continues …

Superbowl Sunday Was Difficult

All in all, think I’m doing reasonably well so far. I’ve been really good about choosing foods carefully.

That said … Superbowl Sunday was difficult (obviously). I got lots of exercise in the form of a football game in the snow, but of course the aprés celebrations involved lots of foods that weren’t exactly ‘health foods’ as you can imagine. I tried to stay the course, but …

I haven’t weighted myself again since starting, but will nearer the end of this week again.

On a positive note, I am eating Lean Cuisine type lunches, and have discontinued snacking before bed. Still having trouble drinking lots ‘o water and finding time for the exercise required though!

Will keep trying!

The Side Bets Have Begun!

Just to add a little extra motivation to the weight loss pot … Jennifer Laycock and I now have a ’side bet’ going. $50 … to the charity of choice for the winner, for the person that loses the highest % body weight in the 2 months period ending March 30.

See how the side bet transpired in the comments here

Thats good … I need all the motivation I can get.

:)

And they’re off!

Okay … weighed myself this morning, and my official starting weight is 206 (ouch). Have to get a picture up later … having trouble downloading photos at the moment.
And I’m off …

Not a good start though … slept in a little due to a late night, and missed breakfast.

So far:

Breakfast - nothing

Lunch - chili with whole wheat bun

3 coffees

Exercise - none yet … its a snow storm outside. After work!

:)

Start Your Engines Please

OK … here’s the skinny (or rather fat). I quit smoking roughly 10 years ago with the aide of something near and dear to my heart … pistachios! Yes, a pound or two every day for months. As you can imagine, there was a cost, albeit it was worth it since I’m still not smoking (10 years, 5 days, and counting). Though, it did leave me with quite a spare tire around my mid section.

The 30 pounds I gained is still with me to this day, and of course I’ve gained another 10 pounds along the way too. Grand total beginning weight … 205 pounds. I’d like to take off 35 pounds, and reduce my weight to 170 … average for a stocky 5′7″ guy. Hopefully It’ll give me more endurance for hockey, and I’ll feel more energetic in general.

I have no expectations of losing 35 pounds in two months though … just 15. Gotta be realistic.

My plan is simple;

1) Get more exercise. I play hockey twice a week now, but of course the apres hockey activities probably more than counter any of the benefits associated with the exercise. So, I plan to jog or use the cross trainer every second day (couch to 5k plan)

2) Cut down on fast foods. Less Wendys and Tim Hortons, and more Lean Cuisines for lunch.

3) Drink more water, rather than coffee!

4) Cut down on junk food before bed.

5) Otherwise, be more selective in my food choices.

That’s it. No master plan … because to me its got to be sustainable.

Hello world!

This is Jeff’s first post.
