Happy Valentine’s Day, Pass The Chocolate

valentinecartoon.gifSo far I’ve been able to avoid dipping into the kids Valentine chocolate, soooo hard for someone who believes chocolate is the fifth and most important food group.

Down to 187 today, have kept to the walking plan and will start using the machines in the gym this weekend when the trainer has time to show me how.  I’ve got a bad back and can’t take a chance of pulling something.

Also less chance of someone I know seeing me act like an uncoordinated dork.

Happy Valentine’s Day.

Throwing Down The Hammer

For me, this challenge is about more than just losing weight, it’s about getting back on track and in a routine I lost control of.

I used to be disciplined about working out and taking time for myself but somewhere along the line in the last year I let other things get in the way and take over. For a self diagnosed organizational freak who prided herself on being on time and well prepared, that’s scary and downright unacceptable.

No number of smart-ass digs will take away from one simple fact — I am a busy person. I have two wonderful active children, a self-employed husband who needs help in the office occasionally, an active volunteer life here in Williamsburg, a terrific circle of friends (both on and offline) and a business.

And like a lot of people, when life gets a little hectic one of things that gets dropped (aside from blog posts and interviews) is the exercise schedule. In my case, the very visual and net result of this slip is a 20 pound weight gain in 10 months which totally sucks no matter how you rationalize it away.

So again - I’m glad SEO’s Fight Fat came along when it did and am looking forward to implementing my strategy of refocusing energy where it’s important and needed.

I’ve been rooting around the house for my pedometer, found my hand and leg weights which I’ll need since I’m going back on schedule with my walking group. It’s forecasted to be in the 40’s tomarrow (hello Mother Nature - this is the SOUTH!!) so we’ll head indoors to our local rec center and walk the track there. That’s step one.

Step two will be to hire back the personal trainer I used to have. Preferably a good looking, young buff boy instead of the middle aged sinewy woman I had. Hey, if I’m going to sweat and feel the burn I may as well have something good to look at.  ;)

Change has never been easy for me but I recognize the need for it especially in regards to the way I look and feel. I may be getting older but I don’t need to look it –or– more importantly, feel it.  So change starts today.

Have a good one. :)

Hello world!

A little slow to the dance but I’m in and totally up for the challenge. Leave for San Francisco tomorrow but when I get back this weekend will start posting regularly.

Don’t worry - no daily eating rituals or photos of cereal from me, I’ll let Jenn do that. ;) I’m not going to change how and what I eat all that radically since I don’t think I’m a bad eater. My problems (at least the way I see it and as they relate to weight) are more about not getting daily, fat-burning exercise. So I’m going to focus on incorporating a workout routine I can live with and then some.

And now the hard part.

I’m 5′8, and weighing in at 191. Peanut M&M are bad bad bad. Running is good good good.
