Surviving Super Bowl

The Super Bowl was a really great game, and yes, I cheated. Not much though. I had some whole grain chips and salsa. I mean, how bad is that, right? Right? Anyway, today everything returns to normal. Grandkids are back home, so no distractions there, and no major events to mess with me. I did have to bring my car in to get repairs done bright and early this morning, so I haven’t yet figured out what the meals will be for today, but that’s next on my to-do list. Plus, today I’ll exercise. Got my little dumbbells sitting here staring at me, so there’s no chance of me forgetting.

The routine isn’t established yet, and that’s the biggest problem for me so far. I’ve been in the same routine for years, so changing that is the hard part. Once the new routine actually becomes a routine, it should be a lot easier. So, now I’m off to scour recipes and such so I can work up some menu ideas. Later, y’all.

Stream of Consciousness Thoughts

I’m totally digging on whole grain bread. Personally, I would have been eating whole grain breads, but my family wanted white bread. Now that it’s a must, I am totally enjoying it. Not totally digging on some of the whole wheat crackers I bought though. Some are fine…some taste like cardboard. Had tofu for the first time in years. Not sooo bad, though it will never go on my list of things I actually WANT. Brown rice. Yuck. I’ve never been a fan of wild rice or brown rice. I’m not sure I can enjoyably make the transition from white to brown rice. Maybe the taste will grow on me with time.

Exercise. I haven’t done any yet. Wait, not totally true. I did take a 15 minute power walk yesterday, and I’ve been running around after my 2 year old granddaughter all day today. Does that count? But I haven’t yet started on a real “regimen”, with weights and everything. Between the kids and the fake hangover I had today, it just didn’t happen. The kids go home tomorrow, so maybe then I can get into some kind of diet routine.

That’s the stream of thoughts for now.

Is There Such A Thing As A Diet Hangover?

Wow, I’ve felt like I’ve had a hangover all day. The only problem with that is that the closest thing to alcohol I’ve had in months is the Arizona Green Tea with Ginseng I had last night. So, I figure it must be the “lack of junk food” that is causing this hangover. Shhh, don’t read so loud. It makes my head hurt.

Scrambling For Last Minute Plans

Do I have everything I need? The right foods? Enough of the ingredients necessary to cook everything? Exercise stuff? Ok, I think maybe I’ve got everything needed to start this thing tomorrow. Will do a “real” starting weight weigh-in tomorrow morning to make sure nothing’s changed since the last one.

I’ve also been monkeying with the site here trying to get everything working just right, so if you see any bloopers now and then, it’s probably just me making adjustments here and there. We’ll hopefully have all that finished shortly.

Hope everyone is geared and ready to go. I wish all the participants lots of luck. But of course, this IS a contest, so I am out to win! LOL. Seriously, I want us all to win. See y’all tomorrow!

Day 0 - Pre-Weight Loss Planning

The time is almost here. I will soon be officially on a weight loss plan for SEOs Fight Fat. That day is tomorrow, and I thought I’d get a jump on things by describing my thoughts, feelings, and actions pre-launch.

First things first…why do I need to lose weight? Well, nearly a year ago, I quit smoking. After 30 years of smoking 3-5 packs a day, it was time (mainly because of the expense). Unfortunately, that resulted in me gaining about 50 pounds since then. Hey, at my age, I didn’t have the lean, tight body I had twenty years ago, but I wasn’t too far off the mark. Now, however, it’s not a pretty sight. In fact, it’s downright UGLY. And just to prove it, I’m going to show everyone real live photos of just how ugly it is. (Tell me I’m not brave!)

Ok, here are a couple of photos of how I look right now. (Again, remember how brave I am for showing these).

(scared to do this…)

(ugh, really hate to do this…)

Ok, so now we all are on the same page. Obviously, I need to lose weight. My goal is to lose the 50 pounds I gained. I know that won’t happen in just the two months of this contest, but whatever I lose during that time will be a good start.

So, just yesterday I bought a brand new scale from Walmart. The one I had was about 40 years old and I just couldn’t rely on it to be accurate. This one is pretty cool and it shows me in giant numbers what I weigh. That’s good because my eyesight isn’t as sharp as it used to be. Here’s a link to it if you are looking for one.

And here’s a pic of it in the box right after I bought it.

And here it is showing my actual starting weight for this challenge. (190.6 pounds).

Whew, how depressing. Ok, no time to get depressed. Moving on…

Tomorrow when the diet officially starts, I’ll fill you in on what method I’ve chosen to lose the weight and share the reasons I made the choices I did. See you then!

BTW, just as a point of reference, this was my backside in younger days, and I’ll hopefully get a wee bit closer to this soon.
